Introducing “Perfect Drain” bonsai soil

Filed under: Product Reviews — Moyougi @ 10:51 pm

At West Coast Bonsai, when it comes to our display plants we tend to get a little fussy. We have discussions about which pot to use, its placement on the bench, feeding schedule, even watering times are an issue. So when it comes time to re-pot plants, well, we get darn right picky about the soil we use. After all it is where half the tree lives and the soil you use effects the growth of the roots which feed the tree. Lousy soil, ugly tree!

Prior to 2003, West Coast Bonsai spent countless months and dollars experimenting with commercial soils, special additives, secret ancient recipes, industry standards, you name it. Finally we decided to give up and design our own soil mix from scratch. Now after 2 years of extensive testing on our own plants we are proud to announce “Perfect Drain Professional” bonsai soil.

No more hard, compacted root balls due to poor soil. Are you tired of hard compacted root systems? Many soils break down to a muddy type texture, even right out of the bag. Sometimes the old soil is compacted so badly that a root rake and power washing is the only way to safely remove the old soil. Even then you destroy a lot of roots, setting back you plants growth for 6 - 8 weeks. Not with Perfect Drain Professional bonsai soil. Because of the coarseness, 1/4″ largest screening and smaller, of our unique blend of ingredients Re-potting a plant that was originally planted in Perfect Drain Professional soil is a snap with virtually zero damage to even the finest roots. Perfect Drain Professional is the best choice for any re-potting job.

No more rotting roots due to poor drainage and water retention. Do you live in an area that gets lots of sustained rain, sometimes weeks at a time? Are you worried about your plants getting to much water? Soggy roots can cause serious damage to your plants. Perfect Drain Professional bonsai soil solves that problem completely. Our unique blend of coarse particles and organic materials insure that your plant drains right no matter how many times it gets watered.

“Perfect Drain Professional” bonsai soil is the ideal soil mix for medium to large junipers, Japanese black pines, Japanese white pines, cedar, cypress, and all other conifers. Perfect Drain is a mix of calcined clay, (that’s a clay product that is fired at 1200 degrees F) red volcanic sand, fine pine bark, volcanic pumice and a mix of minor nutrients. Each of the ingredients in Perfect Drain has been chosen for its unique qualities and all of the ingredients have been screened to remove any unwanted dust and to control the size of the particles.

“Perfect Drain Shohin” bonsai soil. Now you can protect your miniature plants with Perfect Drain Shohin bonsai soil. This soil has all the ingredients of our regular Perfect Drain Professional bonsai soil but it has been engineered for smaller plants. Shohin bonsai have a very small soil base from which to get their nourishment and special water retention needs. We have adjusted the particle sizes to insure your plants roots don’t dry out and we have added just the right mix of micro and macro nutrients to help your Shohin bonsai thrive.

There you have it. The Perfect Drain bonsai soil mixes are and exclusive trade mark of West Coast Bonsai and may be purchased through our online store or our eBay auction site. Watch for other Perfect Drain products coming soon.
